Kwara PDP elects Adamu Bawa as new state chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State has elected Adamu Bawa as its new chairman during the state congress held on Saturday in Ilorin.
Bawa, who contested the Kwara North Senatorial District seat in the 2023 general elections under the PDP, emerged unopposed.
Alongside him, AbdulRahman Kayode was elected State Secretary, while Olusegun Adewara was chosen as Publicity Secretary, among other officials.
Speaking at the congress, former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, praised members of the party for conducting themselves with what he described as maturity, fairness, and commitment to internal democracy.
“The PDP has once again demonstrated that it is a party that guarantees a level playing field and places the will of the people above all,” Saraki stated.
He added, “At PDP, even INEC officials can attest to the maturity and peaceful conduct of our congresses. In other parties, you often need heavy security because of chaos and disorder, but here in Kwara, what we witnessed reflects the national character of our great party.”
The immediate past state chairman, Babatunde Mohammed, also expressed confidence in the PDP’s readiness to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 elections.
“As far as Kwara PDP is concerned, we remain one united family. We are firmly on the ground, fully prepared, and with the support of the people, we are ready to take on the APC as the main opposition party in 2027,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Bawa pledged to work closely with party executives and stakeholders to strengthen the PDP ahead of the next election cycle.
“We are committed to rebuilding and repositioning the party both at the state and national levels. Our goal is clear, we will work together to reclaim power in Kwara State come 2027,” the new chairman said.
