The Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has warned that it will sanction any member found undermining party unity or showing disrespect to Governor Umar Namadi and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
State Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Nasiru Dahiru Jahun, disclosed this when he led a state delegation, including members of the State Executive Committee and chairmen of the party across all 27 local government areas, to show their loyalty to the Governor.
Speaking during the visit, Alhaji Jahun said they were at the Government House to reaffirm their loyalty to Governor Namadi, describing him as the recognized leader of the APC in Jigawa State.
He stated that the party leadership in the state remains firmly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Namadi, endorsing both leaders for a second term come 2027.
The party leaders also commended the Governor Namadi administration for what they termed “wonderful transformation and unprecedented achievements within just two years,” describing them as historic in Jigawa’s development journey.
Jahun also cautioned that the party would not hesitate to sanction any member whose actions undermine unity or show disrespect to the state leadership.
“Our loyalty to the governor is like that of the comical character ‘Maha’ to his teacher; without objection, whatever Malam says we will do, and wherever he directs us, we will follow,” he said.
In his response, Governor Namadi thanked the APC leadership for their solidarity and assured them of his administration’s continued cooperation with the party.
He reiterated his commitment to fairness in dealing with party members across the state.
The governor also stated that both the federal and state governments under the APC are focused on people-oriented policies and the implementation of developmental projects.
However, the simmering tension within the Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently has taken a new turn, as factions loyal to former Governor and Minister of Defence Muhammad Badaru Abubakar and incumbent Governor Umar Namadi have openly clashed, with their supporters exchanging strong words in recent days.
The disagreement, which had been quietly building since the transition of power in 2023, is now widening into open confrontation, threatening the unity of the ruling party in the state.
Observers believe the crisis, if not carefully managed, could weaken the APC’s dominance in Jigawa ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, neither Governor Namadi nor former Governor Badaru has issued a direct statement on the crisis.
