‘Entertainment news’ – Shehu Sani reacts to alleged sack of INEC boss Mahmood

Former Kaduna lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has dismissed reports of President Bola Tinubu directing the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to proceed on leave.

Reacting in a post on X on Thursday, Sani described the alleged directive as “most likely a social media entertainment news.”

He wrote: “The ‘Presidential directive’ to Professor Mahmood to proceed on leave is most likely a social media entertainment news.”

His reaction follows claims that Tinubu asked Mahmood to step aside ahead of the expiration of his tenure after briefings from Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma.

The report alleged that Uzodimma accused the INEC boss of undermining the All Progressives Congress, APC, and covertly supporting an opposition candidate in Imo.

However, Sani has dismissed it as not being true.
