Kano govt releases fifth batch of N5bn for gratuities, death benefits

The Kano State Government has released another ₦5 billion as the fifth batch of payments for gratuities and death benefits owed to retirees and families of deceased civil servants.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced this on Wednesday at the Government House during a symbolic presentation of cheques to beneficiaries.
He explained that the new payment is part of his administration’s efforts to gradually clear the backlog of entitlements, which he promised to settle before the end of his first term in 2027.
“Today we are releasing ₦5 billion as the fifth tranche of pension-related payments. Over half of the 12,000 pensioners have now received their full benefits,” the governor said through his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa in a statement.
Governor Yusuf thanked pensioners for their patience and assured them that his government remained committed to ending their long wait for entitlements.
Traditional leaders, including the Emir of Rano, Dr. Muhammad Isa Umaru, who represented the Kano Emirates Council, praised the governor for making the payments.
He noted that pensioners had suffered in the past and were even forced to pay bribes before accessing their benefits.
