Agency recovers stolen solar-powered ICT equipment worth over ₦80 million in Kano

Operatives of the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) have recovered stolen solar-powered ICT equipment valued at over ₦80 million after a burglary at Aisha Shehu Government Junior Secondary School, Kuka, in Fagge Local Government Area.

According to the Principal, Hajiya Rufa’atu Mahmud Baffa, the burglars broke into the school’s ICT room, removed the ceiling panels and solar installations, carting away computers and other ICT gadgets. However, luck ran out on them when KAROTA patrol officers discovered the stolen items during a routine night operation, forcing the culprits to abandon the equipment in fear.

Speaking on the incident, KAROTA Managing Director, Hon. Faisal Mahmud Kabir, commended his officers for their dedication and patriotic efforts. He confirmed that although the suspects escaped, all stolen items were fully recovered and handed back to the school authorities. He also stressed the need for strengthened security in schools benefiting from the World Bank-supported AGILE project, which has been equipping institutions in support of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s education revival initiative.

Kabir assured that KAROTA would continue to equip its personnel with the tools needed to protect lives and property while collaborating with other security agencies. He also urged the state government to enhance school security to prevent future occurrences. Reports indicated that the burglars had earlier tied up the school’s security guards before executing the crime.
