The Ghanaian boxing fraternity is in mourning following the sudden death of Ernest Akushey, popularly known in the ring as ‘Bahubali.’
According to confirmed reports, the 32-year-old boxer passed away just this morning around 2 am barely two weeks after suffering heavy punches during a bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
Born in Chorkor, a knwon fishing community in Ghana’s capital, Baubali was admired for his “explosive” style and fierce competitiveness.
Over the years, he fought in both the Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight divisions, depending on the bout and opponent.

Baubali was a crowd favourite in Ghana’s vibrant boxing communities, particularly in Chorkor, Mamprobi, Jamestown, Bukom, La, and Osu.
His thrilling performances and charisma in and out of the ring made him one of the most recognisable faces on the local boxing scene.

Before his passing, Baubali was under the promotions of former boxer Ayittey Powers but was dismissed from the stable in 2024.
His untimely death has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s sporting circles, with fans and fellow boxers taking to social media to pay tribute to the fallen fighter who had been tipped for greater success in the sport.
