Ensure smooth handover to Fubara – Group urges Ibas

A group, under the aegis of the Rivers Peace Initiative, RPI, has urged the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ikot-Ete Ibas (retd), to ensure a transparent and seamless handover of power to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Thursday as the state returns to democratic governance.
The group made the call during a peace walk in Port Harcourt under the theme “United for Peace, United for Rivers.”
DAILY POST reports that the event drew participation from civil society leaders, faith leaders, professionals, entertainers, and market leaders.
The convener of the group, Obinna Ebogidi, while presenting a solidarity letter to the Sole Administrator at Government House, commended Ibas for his stewardship during the transition period.
Ebogidi noted that history would remember his role in sustaining peace amid tension and uncertainty.
“As your tenure as Sole Administrator draws to a close, Rivers State stands at a delicate crossroads.
“We have seen that peace is possible when leaders exercise restraint and when citizens embrace dialogue over violence. Safeguard the gains of peace made under your watch and ensure that the handover is seamless and marked by goodwill,” he said.
According to him, the fragile calm in the state must not be sabotaged by political actors or vested interests, and he urged all stakeholders to consolidate the peace achieved during the emergency period.
