The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria, MUSWEN, has dismissed United States President Donald Trump’s claim that Nigeria is a “country of concern” facing genocide, saying the allegation does not reflect the country’s reality.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Thursday, MUSWEN President Alhaji Rasak Oladejo described Trump’s remarks as “misplaced and unfounded,” insisting that Nigeria is not embroiled in any religious conflict.
Oladejo said both Muslims and Christians have suffered from insecurity, banditry, and insurgency, stressing that the country’s crises are driven by socio-economic and political factors rather than religion.
He also accused the United States of applying double standards in its global assessments.
According to him, “It is misleading to brand Nigeria as a genocide-prone country when insecurity affects citizens of all faiths. Nigeria is not engaged in a religious war.”
Oladejo urged Nigerians to seek internal solutions to insecurity and governance challenges while acknowledging ongoing government efforts aimed at restoring stability.
