Accra–Kumasi expressway to be completed in three years – Ato Forson

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has revealed that the government plans to build the Accra–Kumasi Expressway within three years, with commissioning expected in 2028.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Thursday, November 13, Dr Ato Forson described the expressway as one of three major infrastructure projects being prioritised by the government.

“We have three flagships. The first flagship is the Accra–Kumasi expressway. The second is the Ekye-Amanfrom–Adowso bridge, the one that connects to Afram Plains, and then the Dambai bridge,” he explained.

The Minister said the expressway has already undergone a full technical assessment. However, he declined to disclose the project cost, noting that the procurement process is yet to begin.

“We are going to tender, and I have the engineers’ estimate, so you don’t want to mention it for someone to know. It’s going to go through tender and all,” he said.

Dr Ato Forson added that consultants had completed comprehensive designs, including detailed costing, and the project will be opened for competitive tender very soon.

“Three years. We plan to commission it in 2028,” he confirmed when asked about the expected construction timeline.
