PDP denies plan to attack former Gov Matawalle

The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports that it planned to attack former Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle during his visit to the state.

In a statement on Thursday, the party described the allegation as nothing but a deliberate falsehood aimed at misleading the public and creating unnecessary tension in the state.

“The PDP has no plan, intention, or reason to attack anybody,” the statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Halliru Andi said.

The party noted that under Governor Dauda Lawal, it does not promote violence or thuggery.

“Since assuming office, the Governor has decisively dismantled the political thuggery networks established by the previous APC administration and restored peace, sanity, and order across the state,” it added.

The PDP explained that its main focus at the moment is the upcoming PDP National Elective Convention in Ibadan, scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, and that delegates from Zamfara are already on their way.

It also urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to remain peaceful and law-abiding while welcoming their leader, warning against any act that could disrupt the peace.

“We will not tolerate any act capable of returning the state to the dark days of violence and destruction,” the statement read.

The party further cautioned its members to avoid provocation and obey the law. It also accused the APC of allegedly mobilizing thugs to attack PDP supporters traveling to Ibadan.

“We call on security agencies to take note of this disturbing plan and act swiftly to prevent any breakdown of law and order.”

The PDP added that the peace and stability of Zamfara State remain its top priority.
