A video of a young lady being publicly beaten and stripped for stealing a box of noodles has gone viral on social media and ignited widespread mixed reactions and a fierce debate over mob justice in market settings.
The incident which took place at a local market in Nigeria shows the lady thief being surrounded and aggressively confronted by a set of market women.
The most shocking element of the video is the method of punishment employed by the market women.

In a clear attempt to inflict maximum public shame, the market women can be seen forcibly undressing the lady, exposing her (“melons”) and waist beads.
This act of public humiliation appears to be a deliberate strategy to disgrace her beyond the crime itself.
The owner of the stolen noodles is seen repeatedly landing severe slaps across the young woman’s face, showing no sign of mercy.
However, the clip also captured moments of intervention. Several other market women and eyewitnesses can be heard pleading fervently with the aggressors to stop the assault and spare the lady.
Despite these pleas, the beating continued for some time until she was later released from the claws of the angry mob.
