Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced that his administration will expedite the construction of the Abeokuta Division of the Court of Appeal, recently approved by the President of the Court for the state.
Governor Abiodun made the statement at the State Treasury Board meeting for the 2025–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF, and the 2026 Budget, held at the Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Thursday.
He stated that the state had provided land for the construction of the Court of Appeal near the Judiciary Complex along Kobape Road, Abeokuta, and would not wait for the Federal Government before commencing work, due to the court’s importance in the delivery of justice in the state.
Abiodun emphasised that his administration would finance the building of the complex, pending reimbursement by the Federal Government for undertaking the project.
According to the governor, having a Court of Appeal in the state would be a major achievement requiring every form of support, adding that he was determined to ensure the court in Abeokuta is operational before the end of his tenure.
He commended the President of the Court of Appeal for approving the establishment of the Abeokuta Division, noting that, in addition to easing the workload of the Ibadan Division, it would also facilitate the swift dispensation of justice in the state.
Governor Abiodun also expressed appreciation to the judiciary for being the last hope of the common citizen, noting that his administration had benefited from the support and cooperation of the judicial arm of government, which had contributed to the successes recorded by his administration.
