Death toll in El-Wak stampede still six – GAF clarifies


The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has clarified that the death toll from the tragic incident at El-Wak Sports Stadium this Wednesday, November 12, remains at six, urging the public to disregard any false or unverified reports circulating about the event.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the GAF refuted claims made by some media outlets and social media users, which suggested the death toll was 12.
The Armed Forces made it clear that only the official updates provided by them should be trusted.
“The death toll remains 6. The public should treat any other reportage as false,” the post read. “The Ghana Armed Forces will keep updating the general public on any developments.”
The incident occurred during a recruitment exercise at El-Wak Sports Stadium, which was attended by a large crowd.
Details about the cause of the tragedy remain unclear, with authorities launching an investigation to determine what led to the fatalities.
GAF’s statement has called for calm and patience as the investigation continues, stressing that they are committed to providing accurate and timely information.
Meanwhile, 28 casualties, 5 individuals are reported to be in critical condition.
The Military says 28 people were conveyed to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment. Out of the number, six have been confirmed dead, five are in the ICU, while 12 remain in critical condition.
