Bauchi: Robbery suspects arrested after one leaves phone at scene

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers accused of terrorising residents near the Vehicle Inspection Office area, along Jos Road in Bauchi metropolis.
The arrest followed an incident in which one of the suspects, Alhassan Jibrin, also known as Babani Biri, accidentally left his mobile phone at the scene during a robbery operation.
According to the command’s spokesman, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the police received a report from Everest Jonathan, a resident of the area, that around 2:10 am on November 11, 2025, five armed robbers invaded his home and stole valuables.
The items taken included an Android smartphone, a keypad phone, a travelling bag, two pairs of sneakers, clothing, and other personal belongings.
“Upon receiving the report at about 3:40 am, detectives led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Holman Simon promptly visited the scene, assessed the situation, and launched an investigation,” the statement said.
Investigations revealed that Alhassan Jibrin, 20, of Danjuma Goje area abandoned his phone at the crime scene, providing crucial evidence that led to the arrest of three other suspects namely Lawan Adamu, Lawan Idris, and Muhammad Yau, aka Madugu.
During questioning, the suspects admitted to planning and carrying out multiple late-night robbery operations in the area, targeting unsuspecting residents.
Items recovered from the suspects included a travelling bag, two sets of clothes, two pairs of sneakers, two cutlasses, an Android phone, a keypad phone, and two torchlights.
The police command confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other gang members who remain at large.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further discreet investigations.
The suspects, according to the statement, will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
