Afenyo-Markin lauds Police, Interior Ministry over probe into Naa Koryoo’s claims

Minority Leader and Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has praised the Ministry of the Interior and the Ghana Police Service for conducting an “objective and professional” investigation into the Kasoa election violence.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Afenyo-Markin said the initial allegations against former Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson, had been proven false following official investigations.

“The Ministry of Interior and the Police have so far been objective in their investigations and report. The allegation was that Hawa Koomson committed a crime, and it has turned out that is not true,” he stated.

While refraining from offering public advice to his party colleague, Afenyo-Markin said any concerns he had would be raised through the proper political channels.

“I won’t make my advice for her or what she must do public. I will raise my concerns about the matter to the party structures at the right forum,” he added.

The Effutu MP also emphasized the importance of fairness and candor in all investigations involving state officials or political figures. “Ideally, the Police or a Minister of State investigating a matter must be fair and candid, but it sometimes happens that we don’t do that,” he noted, calling for restraint and respect for due process.

Interior Minister Mubarak Muntaka recently revealed that the sitting Awutu Senya East MP, Phillis Naa Koryoo, had denied any attack on her convoy during the 2024 general elections, contradicting earlier reports that had fueled tensions in the constituency.

However, Naa Koryoo clarified that she did not deny the occurrence of attacks but rather called for a comprehensive and impartial investigation by the task force probing the incidents.

She recounted feeling threatened during the election period, highlighting the tense atmosphere and emotional strain on her and her campaign team.
