Baffoe-Bonnie a ‘good older brother and legal adviser’ – Kofi Kapito

Kofi Kapito, CEO of the Consumer Protection Agency and brother of Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has described his sibling as a trusted legal adviser, ahead of his vetting before Parliament.
Speaking on the AM Show on Tuesday, Kapito said he frequently consults his older brother on legal matters, calling him “a good older brother” and a reliable source of legal guidance.
“Anytime I have any legal issue, he is the one I’ll call and say, ‘Jack, what do you think?’ and he tells me the legal aspect of it,” Kapito said.
Kapito also shared a light-hearted disagreement he had with Baffoe-Bonnie over a police invitation.
According to him, the President’s Chief Justice nominee advised that not all police invitations are compulsory, a point Kapito initially questioned.
“His reason was, so even in traditional homes when the chief… he said, ‘No, leave the traditional.’ Because we made it as if when the police invite you, it’s a command,” he recounted.
However, Kapito expressed concerns that his brother may not serve as Chief Justice for a long period due to his age, though he acknowledged the potential for judicial reforms under Baffoe-Bonnie.
“If he had time, probably he could have done a lot of reforms… because he and I, we have a lot of little discussions because I want to see the best practice,” he noted.
His vetting is seen as a key step in confirming him for a permanent role at the helm of Ghana’s judiciary.
