Insecurity: Kebbi holds interfaith prayers for peace, end of insurgency

The Kebbi State Government has held an interfaith prayer session to seek divine help in tackling the security challenges facing the state and the country.

The event, which took place in Birnin Kebbi, brought together Muslims and Christians from different parts of the state to pray for peace, unity, and progress.

Governor Nasir Idris, who spoke during the gathering, said prayers remain important in maintaining peace and harmony. He reminded citizens that security is everyone’s responsibility and not something to be used for politics.

“It is unrealistic to expect any state to be completely free from security concerns. Security should be treated as a collective responsibility, not a political tool,” he said.

The governor dismissed claims that Kebbi is facing religious tension, saying both Muslims and Christians continue to live peacefully.

“Claims suggesting that Kebbi or Nigeria lacks peace, or that there is tension between Muslims and Christians, are baseless. We stand united today, Muslims and Christians alike, seeking divine assistance to overcome our security challenges,” he added.

The prayer session, organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, featured Quranic recitations and special prayers led by Sheikh Abubakar Riba, Chairman of the State Council of Ulamas, and Rev. Femi Orofin, Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

Prominent figures at the event included the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; former Governor Sa’idu Dakingari; and APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Argungu.
