KNUST tops 28th GUSA Cross Country

HE Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) emerged the overall winners of the 28th Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Cross Country and second Minor Games hosted by the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD).
A total of 16 public universities competed in events, including 10km cross country, mixed relay, chess, scrabble, tug of war and Ampe on the theme “Harnessing the Lesser-Known Sports: The Key to Developing the 21st Century Sportsman.”
KNUST swept gold in chess, scrabble and tug of war and won the mixed relay, cementing its position as overall champion.
In a thrilling display of endurance and teamwork, the 10km Cross Country Mixed Relay event saw KNUST clinch the top spot after a commanding performance from start to finish. The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) followed closely in second place, showcasing remarkable determination and coordination.
Also, the University for Development Studies (UDS) secured third position with an impressive effort that earned applause from spectators.
The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) won gold in Ampe while C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) took silver, and host institution UESD proudly secured bronze.
Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, Vice-Chancellor of the UESD, described the hosting of the 28th GUSA Cross Country and Minor Games as a clear testament to the university’s growing influence in Ghana’s higher education and sports development landscape.
