The Black Princesses will begin the defence of their WAFU B U-20 championship today with their opening game against host nation, Benin.
The second edition has attracted only three countries including the host, Ghana and Nigeria.
Ghana hosted the maiden edition in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region where the Black Princesses defeated Nigeria 3-1 on penalties. That in a way will pile some pressure on the defending champions to show signs of a side capable of replicating the heroics of the previous generations.
The team went into camping in preparation for the tourney and departed Accra on Wednesday, to the venue of the tournament.
Ghana enters the competition as defending champions, having won the inaugural edition by defeating arch-rivals, Nigeria, 3-1 on penalties.
Players that made the trip include goalkeepers — Asana Osman (Northern Ladies FC), Aishetu Awinimi (Ampem Darkoa Ladies) and Grace Ando (Soccer Intellectuals).
Defenders — Precious Asante (Dreamz Ladies); Juliana Gyekyewaa (Rootz Sistaz FC); Diana Amoako (Ampem Darkoa Ladies); Rubby Osei (Hasaacas Ladies); Margaret Agyapomaa (Police Ladies FC) and Fatimata Fuseini (Prisons Ladies).
Midfielders — Esther Asamoah (Army Ladies), Latifa Musah (Sissamba Ladies), Theresa Darko (Kumasi Sports Academy), Sarah Nyarko (Dreamz Ladies), Linda Owusu Ansah (Ampem Darkoa Ladies) and Doris Akaheeh (Northern Ladies FC).
Wingers & Forwards — Zeinab Haruna (Prisons Ladies), Frederica Addico (Socrates Ladies FC), Ivy Owusu Osei (Dreamz Ladies), Anges Yeboah (Jonina Ladies) and Mary Amponsah (Zhejiang Hangzhou Bank).
The tournament runs from today to Tuesday, November 11.
