The family of the late former Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, will on November 16, 2025, join Islamic scholars, Imams, chiefs, and well-meaning Ghanaians at No. 4 Switchback Road, Cantonments in Accra, to observe his 13th anniversary Aduwa.
The commemoration is to honour the memory of Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Ghana’s first Muslim Vice President, who served from January 7, 2001, to January 7, 2009, under the administration of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
The 13th Aduwa will feature prayers and reflections on his enduring legacy as a statesman who championed discipline, peace, and national unity throughout his public life.
In a telephone interview, his son, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, former Member of Parliament for Yendi, said his late father served the nation with humility, discipline, and integrity.
“My father always prayed for peace and unity among all Ghanaians,” he stated, adding that promoting discipline among the youth remained one of his father’s top priorities.
He announced that the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, would be the special guest of honour at the event and would lead prayers and deliver a message of reflection, faith, and peace for the soul of the late Vice President.
Alhaji Farouk expressed optimism that through the blessings of Almighty Allah and the prayers of the faithful, his father’s soul rests peacefully in Jannah.
The commemoration will also highlight the late Vice President’s devotion to public service, discipline, and national cohesion.
