GJA Names The Ghanaian Times Journalist, 35 Others for 29th Awards in Kumasi


A Ghanaian Times journalist, Ms. Abigail Annoh, has been nominated for the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, which will be held in Kumasi on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

She is among 36 journalists shortlisted for recognition across multiple categories, celebrating excellence, professionalism, and ethical journalism.

The list was announced in Accra on Tuesday by Mr. Samuel Bio, Night Editor of the Daily Graphic and Secretary to the Awards Committee.

Other nominees include Severious Kale-Dery (Daily Graphic), Nabil Ahmed Rufai (Freelance), Ridwan Karim Dini-Osman (EIB Network), Albert Oppong Ansah (GNA), Timothy Ngnenbe (Daily Graphic), Sarah Apenkro (TV3), Rachel Kakraba (GBC), Solomon Gumah (GNA), Edmund Smith-Asante (Daily Graphic), Samuel Dowuona (Techfocus), Masahudu Ankilu Kunateh (African Eye Report), and Godwin Asediba (Media General).

Others are Doreen Ampofo (GBC), Philip Teye Agbove & Justice Baidoo (The Fourth Estate), Esther Aidoo (GBC), Anass Sabit (JoyNews), Issifu Dasmani Laary (GNA), Ohemeng Tawiah (JoyNews), Clinton Yeboah (KNUST), Muftau Nabila Abdulai (Myjoyonline), James Amoo (GNA), Peter Agengre (GBC), Rosemond Akuorkor Adjetey (GHOne TV), Akwasi Agyei Annim (Channel 1 TV), Ebenezer Madugu (Atinka), and Justice Agbenorsi (Daily Graphic).

Media houses nominated include Ekosiis3n – Asempa FM, The Multimedia Group, Adom TV, Joy FM, Daily Graphic, Peace FM, Citi FM, GTV, and UTV.

Addressing the event, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the GJA, praised the Awards Committee for its “tireless and transparent work,” noting that their diligence reaffirmed the GJA’s commitment to credibility and integrity.

He disclosed that the committee received 321 entries from journalists and media outlets nationwide, which were carefully reviewed to produce the final list of nominees.

Mr. Dwumfour clarified that the names announced were nominees, not winners, and that the final awardees will be unveiled during the ceremony on Saturday.

“Winners will be announced at the event. Please ensure your publications reflect that these are nominees,” he advised.

He commended the Awards Committee Chairman, Mr. Gabriel Abusompem, a former member of the National Media Commission, for his leadership and dedication to a credible selection process.

Highlighting new developments, Mr. Dwumfour revealed that Ashfoam Ghana Limited and Turkish Airlines, in collaboration with the Turkish Embassy in Ghana, will sponsor special packages for selected awardees.

Ashfoam will present gift items to the top four winners, while Turkish Airlines and the Turkish Embassy will offer fully sponsored trips to Turkey for the top three awardees, covering airfare and visas.

Mr. Dwumfour expressed optimism that the 29th edition would be one of the most memorable in the award’s history, celebrating journalists who continue to uphold truth, fairness, and national development through their work.
