Reprieve for Damagum faction as court okays PDP National Convention

A High Court in Oyo State has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagum, to go ahead with the national convention scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan.

The presiding judge, A.L. Akintola, issued the order following an ex parte application filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi.

The court, in suit No. I/1336/2025, filed by Folahan Malamo Adelabi, an aspirant for the position of Deputy National Organizing Secretary, ordered the PDP, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and other respondents not to truncate, frustrate, disrupt, prevent or stop the scheduled national convention.

In a decisive pronouncement, Justice Akintola ordered INEC to deploy monitors and observers to the convention to ensure full compliance with electoral laws, thereby reinforcing the transparency and legitimacy of the exercise.

The court also directed Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri, the Chairman of the National Convention Organizing Committee, NCOC, to proceed with all arrangements relating to the exercise.

The ruling is coming after an Abuja Federal High Court halted the national convention.
