Labour Minister hails El-Sayus sanitation expansion, as a model for safe and decent jobs


The Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment says it is tightening enforcement of workplace standards to ensure that new jobs in Ghana’s sanitation sector are safe, decent, and compliant with labour laws.
Speaking at the opening of the new office of EL-SAYUS Company Limited in Accra, the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, said the ministry is enforcing strict standards to protect workers’ health and safety.
He explained that a dedicated department within the ministry is actively monitoring employers to ensure full compliance with legal standards on environmental safety and workplace conditions.
Dr Pelpuo noted that private sector innovation plays a vital role in addressing Ghana’s unemployment challenge and driving sustainable economic growth. He commended EL-SAYUS Company Limited for aligning its operations with the government’s employment agenda, particularly through its 24-hour sanitation model.
“Following the 24-hour agenda policy, it coincides directly with the expectations and focus of my ministry. We want a situation where we address the huge youth unemployment challenge we have come to confront,” Dr. Pelpuo said.
Established in 1995, EL-SAYUS Company Limited has built a strong reputation in professional cleaning, property management, and facility maintenance.
The company currently employs about 700 workers across the country.
Chief Executive Officer Achibald Darko-Boateng reaffirmed the company’s commitment to collaborating with the Labour Ministry and other state agencies to maintain safe and fair working conditions.
“In this collaboration the Minister has highlighted, we are positioned to join forces with the government and to use our expertise as an internationally certified company to help address areas that have been left unattended,” Mr. Darko-Boateng said.
With nearly three decades of experience in the sanitation and property management industry, EL-SAYUS continues to contribute to Ghana’s employment landscape through innovation, worker training, and sustainable operations — demonstrating how private sector partnerships can support national development goals.
