A piece of sad news from Nsawam in the Eastern Region confirms the death of 8 people and at least 30 others sustained severe injuries after a truck ran into mourners during a funeral ceremony.
According to eyewitnesses, the mourners had gathered to pay their final respects to a popular Okada rider, when a heavy-duty articulator truck carrying a 40ft container suffered a brake failure and veered off the road and crashed into the crowd.
The impact of the crash was so devastating that several victims got trapped under the vehicle.
Videos from the accident scene circulating on social media show disturbing images of injured persons.
Some with severed legs and others whose abdomen have been completly crushed in the collision.
Local residents are said to have rushed to the scene to assist victims and transported the injured to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
Police officers from the Nsawam District Command have since arrived at the scene to control the situation and begin investigations.
