Gunmen ambush Benue lawmaker’s convoy, kill ex-councillor

Unidentified gunmen have reportedly ambushed the convoy of Prince Shimapever Jiji, the lawmaker representing Logo State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly.
The attack occurred at Anyiin, located within the Logo Local Government Area, and resulted in the death of a former Councillor of Tombu Ward, identified as Tsebee, who was killed instantly.
A community member, who preferred not to be named, told our correspondent via phone that the legislator had visited Tombu Council Ward to sympathize with families of victims who lost their lives in an earlier attack last Thursday that claimed about three lives.
According to the source, the convoy came under heavy fire while returning from the visit.
He said, “The unknown assailants who were in their numbers on sighting the convoy at Anyiin started shooting sporadically at the vehicles, killing a former Councillor of Tombu Council Ward and injuring many in the convoy.”
In a phone call, the Chairman of Logo Local Government Area, Clement Kav, confirmed the incident and strongly condemned the attack.
He called on security agencies to bring those responsible for the crime to justice.
According to him, “our son came home to commiserate with the families of the people that were killed in last Thursday attack, I was supposed to be part of his entourage but the governor called me for a meeting, only for me to hear that the Logo representative was attacked on his way back at Anyiin in the late hours of Saturday evening.”
Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Police Command, Udeme Edet, for an official statement were unsuccessful, as her phone line was unreachable at the time of filing this report.
