Fayose urges new PDP Chairman Abdulrahman to prioritise peace, reconciliation

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has urged the factional acting National Chairman, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mohammed Abdulrahman, to make peace and reconciliation his immediate priorities.

Fayose, who made the remark while congratulating Abdulrahman on his emergence, said PDP needs direction.

Abdulrahman was appointed acting PDP Chairman after Umar Damagum was suspended from office by the Sam Anyanwu-led faction.

His appointment followed the decision of the PDP National Working Committee, NWC, to suspend Anyanwu; Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade; Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; and National Organising Secretary, Umaru Bature, for one month, in compliance with a court ruling that halted the party’s planned national convention.

Reacting to the leadership crisis in PDP, Fayose described Abdulrahman’s emergence as an opportunity for the opposition party to regain focus and restore confidence among its members nationwide.

“I congratulate the new chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman. I urge him to unite the party and restore confidence in its members.

“There is no better time to give the PDP a new direction than now. The party must heal from within if it hopes to reclaim its place in Nigeria’s political landscape,” he told journalists in Ekiti.

Fayose also called on the new chairman to address what he described as “injustices and irregularities” in certain state chapters, including Ekiti, in line with the party’s constitution and relevant court judgments.
