EPL: Why I took Gyokeres off at half time against Burnley – Arteta

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has explained why he took Viktor Gyökeres off at half-time during their 2–0 win at Burnley on Saturday.

Gyökeres, who was rested for the Carabao Cup tie against Brighton in midweek, was replaced at the start of the second half by Mikel Merino.

The Swedish striker opened the scoring at Turf Moor with a header and was having a highly influential game.

However, Arteta has now revealed that he picked up “something muscular” and will need to undergo medical checks.

“In the first half, it was one of the best he’s played with us,” Arteta said.

“He felt something muscular, so we have to wait to learn the extent of that.”

It remains to be seen whether Gyökeres will be fit for their Champions League trip to Slavia Prague in midweek.
