An Educationist in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Chika Agwu has advocated for the inclusion of Sustainable development goals, SDGs, as part of the curricular in primary schools.
Agwu, who delivered an address at the Young Change-makers SDGs summit on Friday, with the theme “Small Hands, Big lmpacts- Driving the Global Goals,” emphasized the vital role of children in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.
She called on educators, parents, and policymakers to make SDG education a core part of the curriculum, describing it as “essential learning for building responsible, innovative, and globally-minded citizens.”
She highlighted the power of small actions, sharing the story of a White Cloud pupil who launched a “Clean My Street” campaign to tackle plastic waste in her community. The initiative, she said, showed how young people can lead meaningful change when given the right support and environment.
Agwu expressed her vision of seeing children from Ebonyi State and the Southeast of Nigeria recognized globally for innovation and leadership.
She encouraged children to believe in the power of their voices and ideas, declaring that “greatness has no geography; it only needs opportunity.”
Speaking at the summit, Senior Special Assistant to Ebonyi State governor and focal person, Ebonyi State SDGs, Esther Nwogha, lauded the founder of the school and the teachers for organising the summit.
She stated that small actions, multiplied by millions of young minds, can transform the world.
