Abia Governor’s wife raises alarm over rising cases of breast cancer

Amid the rising cases of breast cancer across the world, the wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, has described regular screening, sustained public awareness and stronger support systems for patients as vital measures to curb the disease in Abia State.

Mrs Otti made the call on Friday during the 2025 Breast Cancer awareness week organised by her office through the Safe Tent Care Initiative, in collaboration with the Abia State Ministry of Health.

Represented by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adaeze Emetu, Mrs Otti expressed concern on the devastation women are going through because of breast cancer but said that early detection and prevention were the most effective strategies for reversing the ugly trend.

The Abia Governor’s wife, who praised survivors of breast cancer in Abia and the world at large, described them as “beacons of courage and resilience whose stories inspire hope and determination in others.”

She reaffirmed her continued support to those still battling breast cancer, and also paid tribute to the victims who lost their lives to disease.

“Breast cancer affects us all, regardless of age, ethnicity, or background,” Mrs Otti said during the city-wide awareness exercise.
