Borno hunter allegedly kill CJTF colleague in accidental discharge


A member of the Hunters Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Gamboru, Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, has been arrested after he accidentally shot and killed a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

The incident, which occurred around 2:20 a.m. on Thursday, was reported in a post shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Friday.

According to Makana, Shemi Babagana, 28, a member of the Hunters RRS, mistakenly fired his pump-action gun, hitting Modu Hunters, 26, a CJTF operative attached to Sector 10 Maiduguri. The tragic shooting happened near the Gamboru Motor Park in Borno State.

“The scene was visited and photographed. The victim was taken to the Primary Health Care Centre in Gamboru for treatment but was confirmed dead on arrival by the medical officer,” Makama quoted an official report as saying.

The suspect was immediately arrested, and the firearm used in the incident was recovered as an exhibit. The body of the deceased was released to his relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.

Makama added that the case file, the suspect, and the recovered weapon have been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri for further investigation and possible prosecution.
