We need our money back – SDP state chairmen ask EFCC, police to investigate Gabam

State chairmen of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, have called on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, the Nigeria Police and other authorities to investigate the expelled national chairman, Shehu Gabam, and other former party officials.
The chairman of the forum of SDP chairmen and Lagos State chapter chairman, Femi Olaniyi, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to him, the party’s National Working Committee was on track to have expelled Shehu Gabam and other executives.
Olaniyi said Gabam has betrayed Nigerians and former prominent leaders of the SDP, including Baba Gana Kinjibe, Olu Falae and others who penned their names in gold in the history of the party.
He alleged that Gabam and others stole nearly a billion naira from the party – meant for the state chapters.
Olaniyi stressed that if nothing is done, the party’s state chairmen would be compelled to take legal action against Gabam.
“The matter must be taken to all relevant investigative authorities, such as the EFCC and the Nigeria Police, for further investigation and to recover the funds embezzled by the former national chairman.
“As you all know, 75 per cent of the embezzled funds, nearly a billion naira, belong to the states as stipulated by our constitution. We need our money back and cannot forgo it; otherwise, we may be compelled to take legal action to recover the funds,” he said.
DAILY POST reports the party’s NWC recently expelled Gabam and others over financial misappropriation.
SDP spokesperson Rufus Aiyenigba said the management of the party failed in the last three years.
