KoKMA leads Ghana’s Smart City Drive at Global Expo in Barcelona

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA), Alfred Allotey-Gaisie, will lead a three-man delegation to represent Ghana at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, Spain, from November 4 to 6, 2025.
The global summit, organised by the Barcelona City Council, will host leaders from over 700 cities worldwide and serve as a premier platform for exchanging ideas on how technology can foster more sustainable, inclusive, and citizen-centred urban environments.
Mr Allotey-Gaisie will feature as a speaker under the session titled “Governance for Smarter Growth: Innovation and Digital Futures,” where he will present on the topic: “Korle Klottey Boosts Revenue with Digital Payment Reforms: Transforming Local Governance in Ghana.”
He will highlight how KoKMA’s digital transformation agenda has streamlined revenue collection systems, enhanced transparency, and improved service delivery at the local level.
The session, which forms part of the Governance and Economy track, will bring together urban leaders and innovators to explore how cities are embracing digitalisation and new governance models to accelerate sustainable development, drive innovation, and ensure long-term economic vitality.
As cities strive to balance economic growth, sustainability, and digital transformation, forward-looking governance strategies and innovation hubs are becoming essential to fostering prosperity and resilience.
In a statement ahead of the conference, Mr Allotey-Gaisie emphasised the importance of Ghana’s participation in global discussions on digital transformation and sustainable urban development, describing it as “a proud moment for Ghana and for the people of Korle Klottey.”
“We are demonstrating how local innovation, when guided by strong governance and community engagement, can transform service delivery and improve lives. Through digital payment systems and smart governance reforms, we are driving efficiency, accountability, and inclusiveness at the municipal level,” he remarked.
He further noted that KoKMA’s participation in the Smart City Expo would provide “a global platform to exchange knowledge, showcase Ghana’s progress in local digital governance, and build new partnerships that can help accelerate our journey toward a smarter, cleaner, and more resilient Accra.”
“Our goal,” he added, “is to ensure that technology serves people — making our cities more responsive, sustainable, and future-ready.”
By sharing Ghana’s story on this global stage, Mr Allotey-Gaisie reinforces the country’s growing reputation as a forward-looking hub for urban innovation — demonstrating how African cities are redefining governance through technology, transparency, and citizen engagement.
In a related development, Mr Emmanuel Baisie, City Manager of KoKMA, will also participate in the Congress, representing the Assembly’s administrative and operational leadership.
Mr Baisie has been invited to a closed-door City Managers’ Meeting on November 5, where municipal executives from across the world will share insights on urban management, human resource development, financial administration, and innovative governance practices.
This engagement reflects KoKMA’s deepening commitment to international collaboration and knowledge exchange, ensuring that global best practices continue to inform the Assembly’s efforts to build a smart, efficient, and people-centred municipality at the heart of Accra.
The third member of the delegation is Nii Ofori Quaye, who is in charge of Public Affairs and International Relations at KoKMA.
