Customs intercepts N60m petrol truck diverted from Borno to Kebbi

A petrol tanker carrying 60,000 litres of fuel meant for Borno State has been intercepted by operatives of Operation Whirlwind of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, at a border area in Kebbi State.
The truck, with registration number NSR26ZL, was allegedly diverted and intended to be smuggled out of the country, according to the Customs authorities.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the Customs Area Command in Birnin Kebbi, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, who represented the National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, ACG Dr. Kola Oladeji, said investigations revealed that the product was supposed to be delivered in Borno State, but was diverted to Kebbi for illegal export.
He said the seized truck, valued at over N60 million, has been handed over to the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, for further action.
“The truck we are handing over today was suspected of diversion and was detained here at the Customs Area Command, Kebbi,” he said.
The Deputy Manager of NMDPRA for Kebbi and Sokoto, Mr. Ali Ajimi, received the consignment on behalf of the authority.
