Amotekun in Osun became rogue organisation- Group reacts to Akinlalu killings

A civil society organisation, The Osun Masterminds, TOM, has expressed sadness at the news of the gruesome killings of some residents of Akinlalu town, Ife North local government area of Osun State.

The group on Wednesday, during the October State of the State Address by its Executive Director, Prof Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, also expressed deep sorrow over what they described as a gruesome attack on defenceless citizens by those meant to protect them.

He said, “We were saddened by the news of the gruesome killings perpetrated by some Amotekun Corps in Akinlalu. We were saddened not just because of the unfortunate incident, but because we warned the Osun State Government.”

The group lamented that their fears had come true, claiming that Amotekun indeed became a rogue organisation, which they said had culminated in the unfortunate killing of innocent persons in Akinlalu.

They criticised the state government’s alleged delay in addressing the incident, noting that “instead of taking concrete steps to punish the criminal elements who perpetrated the crime, the government acted indifferent for several days, until men of the Nigeria Police Force took action.”

The address further read: “We expected that a government that has been faced with a series of communal clashes in less than three years should have acted with a sense of urgency.”

The group, however, commended the Nigeria Police for stepping in to restore order and begin investigations into the killings.

“We want to sincerely thank the Nigeria Police Force for rising to the occasion and acting in the interest of law and order,” they said.

They also urged the police to ensure a transparent investigation, stressing that all persons involved in the crime be made to bear the full weight of the law.

The group called on the Osun State Government to cooperate fully with the police “not just to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book, but also to save whatever is left of the dignity of the Osun State Amotekun.”

Also, speaking, Ayo Ologun, another members of the group called for the overhaul and complete leadership change in the Amotekun Corps.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that the Nigeria Police had in the aftermath of the Akinlalu killings sealed off the Osun Amotekun base office in Okefia, Osogbo and Ife Central local government office.

The Nigeria Police also invited the Amotekun leadership for questioning as it opened investigation into the development.

DAILY POST had reported that the Osun Amotekun personnel had stormed Akinlalu town on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 and reportedly killed some towns people whom they alleged were hoodlums and seized two rifles from them.

In the aftermath of the incident, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke directed that all parties in the case cooperate with the Nigerian Police to unravel the circumstances which led to the unfortunate incident.
