Sokoto: Troops restore peace in Silame after farmers–herders dispute

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have restored peace to Karangiya and Danjawo villages in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State after a violent clash between farmers and herders on Sunday.

The development was contained in a post shared on X on Monday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who said the troops acted swiftly to bring the situation under control.

According to Makama, the clash began around 9 a.m. following a disagreement over the alleged cultivation of farmlands along cattle routes.

“What started as a minor argument between Hausa farmers from Karangiya and Fulani herders from Danjawo quickly escalated into violence before security operatives intervened.

“Troops moved in immediately and restored order,” Makama said, noting that calm had since returned to the affected areas.

At least nine people, five farmers and four herders were injured in the incident.

Five of them were treated and discharged at Silame General Hospital, while three others remain under medical care.

In response, the Chairman of Silame Local Government Area has convened an emergency stakeholders’ meeting aimed at finding a lasting solution to the recurring conflict.

Meanwhile, security forces have intensified patrols and surveillance in the communities to prevent further violence.
