The government says it is allowing investigators more time to complete their work on the Z-9 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people.
Officials are stressing the need for a careful and comprehensive probe to establish the exact cause of the tragedy before making the findings public.
Minister in Charge of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed that investigations into the Z-9 military helicopter crash are still underway, despite the committee tasked with the probe having missed its initial 30-day deadline.
The committee, chaired by the National Security Coordinator, was established to determine the cause of the crash and submit a detailed report to the government. However, more than a month after the deadline elapsed, there has been no official communication on the status of the probe.
This silence has drawn concern from the opposition in Parliament.
The First Deputy Minority Whip, Habib Iddrisu, has filed a Right to Information (RTI) request, urging the government to make the committee’s findings public.
Speaking to JoyNews, Mr Kwakye Ofosu stated that the request has not yet reached his office but assured that the government remains committed to transparency once the investigation is concluded.
“I have not seen the request, so when we see it, we’ll be able to know exactly what he’s looking for and then respond appropriately,” he said.
He added, “It’s important that in such matters, we give adequate time for proper, thorough investigations to be carried out so that we know exactly what happened. That process is ongoing, and as and when there’s information, the public will be made aware.”
