Kwara govt seals cold room over alleged sale of spoiled fish
Officials of the Kwara State Ministry of Environment have sealed a cold room in Ilorin, the state capital, after discovering that it was selling spoiled fish to unsuspecting residents.
The environmental officers intercepted a consignment of decayed fish and traced its source to the cold room, prompting immediate enforcement action.
Confirming the development, the Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Buge, said the ministry acted swiftly to prevent the distribution of unsafe food to the public.
“It is unbecoming of any trade outlet, where products meant for human consumption are being sold, to trade in spoiled items. Our officials have done the needful by halting further sales, confiscating the products, and sealing off the premises,” she stated.
Buge described the act as “inhuman, unlawful, and ungodly,” warning business owners across the state to desist from selling contaminated or expired food items.
She also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could endanger public health to the Ministry of Environment or the nearest law enforcement agency.
