Police arrest 5 more suspects in Asemkor murder case


The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five additional suspects in connection with the murder of John Abban at Asemkor in the Agona Nkwanta District of the Western Region.
According to a statement signed by Superintendent Olivia E.T. Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in Sekondi, the latest arrests bring the total number of suspects linked to the murder to 10.
Police say the suspects were picked up from different hideouts across the region following sustained intelligence operations.
On Thursday, October 23, 2025, Kwabena Asirifi, aged 50, was arrested at Ampataano, a community near Asemkor.
The following day, Friday, October 24, the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate arrested three more suspects, James Eshun alias Abeiku (25), Joseph Aidoo alias Moree (45), and Stephen Nyame alias Joe (18) at Abuesi in the Shama District.
Meanwhile, Kwabena Musah, 55, who was earlier arrested at Ahuntumano near Butre on October 18, has been put before court along with Kennedy Abor alias Abongo (30), Kojo Attah Panyi (20), Joseph Basses (30), Abraham Cudjoe alias Yalle (39), and Ekow Painstil (45).
The six were remanded into police custody and are expected to reappear in court on October 30, 2025.
It will be recalled that John Abban, a brother of the Chief of Butre and Asemkor, was attacked and murdered on October 6, 2025, during a chieftaincy dispute in Asemkor.
The suspects reportedly fled the community after the incident until their eventual arrest.
The Police say investigations are ongoing to ensure all those involved face justice.
