Four killed in Upper East within 24 hours

Four people, including two women, have been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Bawku within the past 24 hours. The latest attack occurred around 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, along the Atuba road near Binduri.

On Friday morning, a woman was reportedly gunned down after stepping out to meet a colleague. Later that evening, around 7 p.m., a man identified as Salam was shot dead by two armed men on a motorbike at a drinking spot in Garu. At about 11 p.m. the same day, another woman was also killed in Binduri.

The most recent attack took place at dawn on Saturday, when gunmen ambushed and killed a man identified only as Awal.

The killings have further heightened tension in the already volatile area.

Myjoyonline.com sources indicate that military personnel have arrested 10 people in connection with the murder of the second woman in Binduri.

Violence and tensions have reduced the otherwise buoyant municipality of Bawku in the Upper East Region.

It has disrupted peace efforts in the municipality and led to the imposition of a curfew, restricting movement and leading to a ban on arms.

The latest incidents have reignited fears among residents and renewed calls for a lasting resolution to the protracted Bawku conflict, which has claimed numerous lives over the years.
