Former Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo, has cautioned against any haste to prosecute corruption-related cases without ensuring proper investigation and effective prosecution.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, October 25, Mr Domelevo said he would prefer the quality outcome of judicial processes using the right legal framework to the speed at which cases are sent to court.
“My worry is not about the speed going into the courtroom, my worry is about when we arrive at the courtroom what next? Because from my point of view, the legal framework must change to facilitate the early completion of these cases,” he said.
According to him, authorities must prioritise diligent investigations, competent prosecution and review of legal frameworks to guarantee justice and ensure that offenders are duly punished.
He said “The enactment of law to limit the time frame within which this economic and organised crimes, or looting and corruption cases can be trialed.”
He made the remarks in response to recent revelations by the Attorney-General concerning financial irregularities at the National Food Buffer Stock Company and issues surrounding the procurement of District Roads Improvement Programme equipment under the erstwhile NPP government.

Mr Domelevo emphasised that Ghana’s anti-corruption fight would only be credible when prosecutions are well-grounded, transparent, and result in meaningful accountability.
