Basic Schools Heads condemn murder of Headteacher in Garu


The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) has condemned the shooting to death of the headteacher of Gadu D/A Primary School in the Upper East Region.

 Martin Ansobome tragically lost his life on Monday, 20th October 2025, following a shooting incident carried out by unknown assailants.

Gunmen on motorbikes attacked and fired indiscriminately at the NHIA office at Garu. At least, four people were killed, leaving several others injured.

The Conference says the death of Mr. Ansobome, a dedicated teacher, is not only a blow to his family but also to the entire teaching fraternity.

“We vehemently condemn this heinous act and express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, and the entire educational community.

Mr. Ansobome was a dedicated headteacher who served his community with unwavering commitment and integrity.

His loss is not only a blow to his family but also to the entire teaching fraternity and nation at large,” the statement read.

The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS), in a release signed by its General Secretary, Justice Adu Darko, calls on the government to compensate the immediate family of Mr. Martin Ansobome while it calls for swift investigations to bring perpetrators to book.

“COHBS hereby calls on the Government of Ghana and the security agencies to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into this tragic incident. It is imperative that the perpetrators of this barbaric act are identified and brought to justice without delay.

“Furthermore, we demand that the Government of Ghana compensate the immediate family of the late Mr. Ansobome.

“We specifically urge that his wife and children be supported financially and the education of all his children be fully sponsored by the government through to the university level as a measure of support and recognition for his service,” the group stated
