“Best First Lady Ghana has ever had”: Ghanaians mourn Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings



Ghanaians have taken to social media to mourn the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who died at the age of 76.

The sad news, which broke on Thursday, October 23, has prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes across various platforms.

Nana Konadu, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001 and was a pioneering advocate for women’s empowerment.

Through the 31st December Women’s Movement, she championed education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for women, especially in rural communities.

Across X (formerly Twitter), many Ghanaians have described her as a bold, visionary, and inspirational figure whose legacy continues to shape Ghana’s political and social landscape.

One message read, “Best First Lady Ghana has ever had. RIP.”

Another X user wrote, “My heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and all who mourn her loss. May you find strength, peace, and comfort in this difficult time.”

Another tribute said, “I’m saddened to hear about the passing of Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. The longest-serving First Lady of Ghana. She is one of the strongest and most assertive women I have met. Indeed, a Konadu. May God give you eternal rest.”
