WAFCON 2026Q: Abigail Appiah receives late Black Queens call-up for Egypt doubleheader
Israeli-based midfielder Abigail Appiah has been handed a late call-up to the Black Queens team ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Qualifiers.
Appiah gets a late entry into the squad for the games against Egypt on October 23 and October 28.
The former Jonina Ladies midfielder replaces Anasthesia Achiaa in the team after the latter pulled out of the squad for the doubleheader.
Appiah has been an impressive figure in the Hapoel Raana team in the Israeli Women’s Premier League since her arrival before the start of the season.
The budding midfielder was named in the Team of the Month for September 2025 following her performances in the league.
That recognition has been followed with a call-up to the senior women’s national team as they seek to beat Egypt to qualify for next year’s WAFCON.
Appiah was part of the Black Queens squad that was being monitored earlier this year ahead of the team’s participation in the 2024 WAFCON but eventually missed out on a place in the final squad.
Ghana will travel to Suez for the first leg of the encounter before returning to Accra to play the North African side at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Black Queens are aiming g to return to the continental showpiece to be staged next year which will also serve as qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup.
