Tinubu ordered construction of another auditorium at Nigerian Law School, Bwari – Wike


The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Monday disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has ordered the construction of another auditorium for the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja.

Wike said the measure is part of Tinubu’s efforts to ensure that the institution is well equipped to provide the students with the best amenities.

He disclosed this at the flagging off ceremony of the Construction of 300 capacity Male and 300 capacity Female hostels at the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja.

Wike informed “doubting Thomas’ that Tinubu is providing leadership since he assumed office as president.

He said: “For legal education in this country, just two years in office, and let it be recorded for the doubting Thomas’, let it be known that just two years in office of Mr. President, two years as Attorney General, we have visited the Nigerian Law School campus two times. In essence, you can say that every year Mr. President has one thing to do in Nigerian Law School.

“The first time he came here through the Attorney General, he came to flag off the staff quarters and while flagging off the staff quarters, he made a promise, looking around that he has heard information through the Attorney General that the shortage of accommodation for students, and that is why this school is unable to accommodate the number that come out of the various universities.

“And that promise he made was in December. Today, we are here to fulfill that promise that Mr. President made. That shows that when you have good leadership, there’s nothing difficult in achieving results.

“And Mr. President has shown leadership and let anybody say that since the inception, between 1999, I know that this campus was opened in 1997. There are structures here before then.

“How many people have intervened directly as a government in the Law School? We have provided the three utility vehicles to the school.”

The minister recalled having a conversation with his son who was recently called to Bar on the level of infrastructure within the school, noting the need to provide more auditorium.

He said: “I was discussing with my son, whom by the grace of God was called to Bar and he told me that they had completed the auditorium. And I said that now that we are providing hostel that would take almost 600 students, tt would mean that they would not admit more students.

“You see? Well, it does not necessarily follow. But I think someone will happen. He said, ‘well, that auditorium, whether it will take everybody may not be. I said, which means they require another auditorium so that they can’t.’

“I said, luckily for us, I was privileged to be with Mr. President last night. And I tabled this to him. He said, ‘go back and make sure another auditorium is built for the Law School.”

On his part, the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, recalled how Wike promised to make a budgetary provision in 2025 for the building of 300-bed space Students’ Hostels for male and female students at the Nigerian Law School in Bwari to assist the Nigerian Law School.

He said the flag off was the fulfillment of the promise Wike made on December 9, 2024.

Chiroma said: “You may recall that on the 9th of December 2024 during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of ten (10) units of staff quarters and donation of vehicles to the Nigerian Law School, His Excellency, the Honourable Minister of the
Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, promised to make a budgetary provision in 2025 for the building of 300-bed space Students’ Hostels for Male and Female students at the Nigerian Law School Bwari, Abuja to assist the Nigerian Law School.”

He commended Wike for fulfilling his promise which is the flag off for the construction of 300-bed space hostel each for male and female hostels at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja.

“This Hostels will go a long way in assisting the Nigerian Law School to fulfilling its mandate. We are not taking this gesture for granted.”

Noting that the Minister is repeating history, he said posterity would be kind to him.

“Posterity will be kind to you when the history of Legal Education and justice sector is written in Nigeria,” he added.
