Suspected gunmen raid Zonkwa police station in Kaduna, kill two officers

Suspected gunmen on Thursday night attacked the Zonkwa Divisional Police Headquarters in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing two officers.

The attack, which occurred around 8:45 p.m., saw an unknown number of armed assailants storm the station and shot indiscriminately, forcing police guards to retreat into nearby bushes due to the heavy gunfire and lack of perimeter fencing.

The slain officers were identified as DSP Monday Madaki, 55, who served as the Incident Duty Officer, and Inspector Bin Magaji, 49, the Charge Room Officer (CRO). Both sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the assault.

“The attackers fled immediately after the shooting. The Divisional Police Officer swiftly mobilised personnel and requested military reinforcement to stabilise the area,” a security source said.

The wounded officers were taken to the General Hospital, Zonkwa, where they were confirmed dead by the attending doctor.

According to Zagazola Makama, no firearms were stolen during the attack, and normalcy has since been restored.

Security forces have intensified efforts to track down and arrest the perpetrators, while joint patrols and surveillance operations have been reinforced across Zangon Kataf and neighbouring communities.
