Police bust criminal gang, arrest four suspects in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has announced that its detectives, in a major operation, have cracked down on a gang of criminals specialising in theft.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, and made available to newsmen.
According to the statement, “On 19th October 2025, at about 0850hrs, a distress call was received at the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Damaturu, that on the same date at about 0730hrs, four unknown persons were sighted around the Pompomari area, Damaturu, conveying a white bull suspected to have been stolen, in a tricycle (commonly known as Jega) with registration number YAROTA 3517 DRT.
“Upon receipt of the report, a team of detectives from the Division swiftly mobilised to the scene and succeeded in arresting the four suspects.”
The Command identified the suspects as Mallam Adamu Usman, 54, of Alimarami Extension; Babayo Umar, 20, of Nayinawa Ward; Garba Shaibu, 35, of Nayinawa Ward; and Babayo Ali, 54, of Nayinawa Ward.
It further stated that preliminary investigation revealed that Mallam Adamu Usman confessed to having bought the bull from one Buba (surname unknown) and Halilu (surname unknown), both of whom are currently at large, knowing fully that the animal was stolen based on available evidence.
“The bull and the tricycle used in conveying it have been recovered and impounded as exhibits, while efforts are being intensified to trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects,” the Command added.
The Command also called on members of the public to continue supporting the Police with credible and timely information to aid in the arrest of criminal elements and ensure the safety and security of lives and property in the state.
