Och’Idoma condemns herdsmen killings in Benue

The Och’Idoma of Idoma, HRM Chief Elaigwu John Odogbo, has condemned killings by Fulani herdsmen in his domain.

The monarch also sympathized with families and communities affected by the recurring attacks.

The traditional ruler spoke during the Idoma Royal Banquet held in his honor in Abuja.

Describing the attacks as wounds on the soul of the Idoma nation, the monarch charged the people to show courage, unity, and wisdom in defending their land and preserving the Idoma heritage.

“As we gather here to celebrate our heritage, we must not ignore the wounds and pains caused by the herders’ attacks.

“We sympathize with every family and community that has lost loved ones to these tragic incidents.

“Their blood cries for justice, and their memory must strengthen our resolve to defend our heritage within the bounds of the law,” he said.

The monarch reminded the people that their forefathers built a strong and united nation, one that must not be allowed to crumble under present challenges.

He also expressed hope that the Idoma people will emerge victorious in the fight to secure their land.

“Our forefathers built a strong and united nation. Today, that inheritance is under siege, but the spirit of our ancestors has not departed from us.

“We are strong enough to defend our land, our culture, and our dignity, not through violence, but through lawful courage, wisdom, and unity.

“I am strongly hopeful that we shall prevail over our enemies. “
