Five suspects arrested over attack on Kwara community

Five suspects, connected with the bloody attack on Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, have been arrested by police operatives in the state.
The suspects are Umar Babuga, Mohammed Ahmed, Aliyu Buba Alade, Sidi Buba Alade and Sheu Buba Alade.
According to the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the suspects were arrested in connection with the attack on Oke-Ode community, which occurred on Sunday, September 28,
2025.
At least 12 residents of the community including the Baale of Ogba-Ayo, were killed in the bloody incident while scores were abducted by the bandits.
“They are currently in custody and undergoing investigation,” the Kwara police spokesperson stated on Friday evening.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has blamed local residents who serve as informants to bandits for the increase in kidnap incidents in some parts of the state.
Addressing journalists in Ilorin on Friday, the police commissioner also expressed concern over delayed report of kidnap acts by people affected to the appropriate security agencies.
He noted that “instead of informing the police officer about their dilemma for necessary actions, the relations of the abducted victims would be sourcing for money to pay the bandits”.
“The problem is that when your wards are in the hands of the kidnappers, they threaten you that if you tell the police, they are going to kill the victims.
“So, because of that, many people will not give police information. They prefer to secretly go and pay the ransom without telling the police, so that is why we are encouraging people to speak out,” the CP added.
