Police nab man who attacked girlfriend for turning down his proposal


The Rivers State Police Command has arrested one Abi Baragon, who is alleged to have assaulted his girlfriend after she rejected his marriage proposal.

According to a statement on Friday by the Command Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, 46-year-old Baragon was apprehended on October 13.

Reports suggest that the lady rejected Baragon’s proposal after realizing that the suspect was already married with four children.

The statement noted that operatives attached to the Human Rights Department, State Headquarters, swung into action after getting a distress call from the victim and apprehended the suspect based on intelligence.

The statement added, “During further interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed that he used bottles to stab the victim.

“The suspect is currently in police custody, while the victim is receiving medical treatment in the hospital, and an in-depth investigation has been launched to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, Olugbenga A. Adepoju, praised the efforts of the operatives in apprehending the suspect.

CP Adepoju also commended the public’s support and cooperation in sharing credible information that led to the suspect’s arrest.

“The Police Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to justice and warns perpetrators of crime that there is no hiding place for the wicked.”

The CP stated that the suspect will face prosecution upon the conclusion of a discreet investigation.
