Group condemns ‘destruction of Igbo people properties in Lagos’, urges Tinubu’s intervention

A group from the Southeast region, under the umbrella of Igbo National Union-Worldwide, INU-W, has condemned what it described as wanton destruction of businesses and properties belonging to Igbos by the Lagos State Government.
It is now seeking urgent intervention from President Bola Ahmed Tinibu.
The group, which aims to focus on protecting and defending the collective interests and goodness of Igbos both at home and in diaspora, stated that the actions of the Lagos State Government was capable of raising ethnic tension and disharmony between the Igbo race and that of the Yoruba nation.
In a press statement made available to journalists, Administrative Secretary of the group, Mazi Austin-Mary Ndukwu, frowned upon what he termed willful and calculated demolition and destruction of properties and businesses of Igbo people under the current administration of Babatunde Sanwo-Olu.
The group urged Mr President to quickly intervene by compelling the Lagos State Governor to stop the alleged lopsided and wanton demolition and destruction of Igbos’ businesses and properties.
INU-W urged Sanwo-Olu and other Yoruba elites who it accused of supporting the alleged targeted demolitions to redress their steps and have a rethink, bearing in mind every region needs each other to survive.
It regretted that Igbos have been singled out for destruction in Yoruba land and cautioned that such act cannot be condoned.
Lagos State Government should stop antagonizing the Igbo who contribute immensely to the development of the State.
“We encouraged Igbos in Lagos to bear the actions of the Governor, believing that it will later come to pass,” it stated.
INU-W claimed that it had become very clear that “Lagos State Government is fully out, albeit, under State laws and proclamations, to make life unbearable and difficult for Igbos domiciled in that State”.
“To make matters worse is the conspiracy of silence by both the Federal Government and Yoruba elites feeling unconcerned to condemn the actions of Lagos State Governor to stop the lopsided and wanton demolition, destruction of businesses and properties that are mainly targeted against Ndigbo, suggesting of ethnic profiling.
“INU-W is urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to compel the Lagos State Governor and his Yoruba kinsmen for a change of attitude and rectify the already dangerous trend against Ndigbo before it snowballs into a total breakdown of law and order,” it cautioned.
